The sixth meeting of the Project Committee for the project to improve the efficiency of local services in Bosnia and Herzegovina was held today in Sarajevo.
The PIPLS project aims to improve access to key public services through better management and increased investment in local infrastructure.
The project is primarily financed by Sweden, and implemented and co-financed by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) in cooperation with the Public Administration Reform Coordinator’s Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Ministry of Finance of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Ministry of Finance of the Republika Srpska, the Office for Development and European Integration of Posavina Canton and two Unions of Municipalities and Cities. The project worked and continues to work on establishing a system for strategic property management and improving the capacity of employees for efficient property management.
For the purpose of efficient use of available financial resources, the Project provides direct support to partner LGUs in optimizing public spending and generating funds for capital investments.
Furthermore, the project works on strengthening the system of internal controls in order to suppress illegal spending and introducing a new level of supervision in the financial management practices of local self-government, and improving the skills of LGU employees for more efficient management of public procurement procedures.
Also, within the sub-component of the project – Initiative to strengthen the capacities of newly elected mayors/mayors, the project worked with the newly elected mayors on the implementation of priority interventions within three thematic areas: digitization of administration, provision of services and infrastructure, and local economic development.
The total value of the project is 3.4 million dollars, of which 2.1 million is financed by Sweden, and the rest by UNDP and partner local self-government units.
The meeting was attended by Miroslav Zeković, a member of the Project Committee, on behalf of the Public Administration Reform Coordinator’s Office.
