Almost half of the surveyed persons in Bosnia and Herzegovina does not know where and how to report a corruption, as demonstrated by the results of the survey implemented for the needs of the campaign “Report Corruption!”.

The campaign was initiated within the project “Building of capacities for combat against corruption in the structures of civil service in BiH”, whose implementation started in May last year, and would complete in May this year.

Expert on the project Una Bejtović said that the objective of the campaign “Report Corruption!” was to draw attention to the state institutions whose obligation was to transparently place links and enable reporting of corruption on their web sites and in their institutions.

“They should invite the citizens to understand that corruptive behaviour is not acceptable and encourage them in reporting the cases of corruptive behaviour they faced in practice”, said Bejtović, and added that common combat against corruption had no alternative.

In addition to 40 per cent of the surveyed who did not know where to report a corruption, 33 per cent said that they offered the money at their own initiative although nobody asked them to, 56 per cent deemed there was no point in reporting a corruption, 30 per cent deemed that corruption was a common practice and that there was no need to report it.

Ten per cent deemed it was acceptable for the civil servant to get a job through family or friends, while 16 per cent deemed corruption an acceptable form of behaviour.

“To us, it is not acceptable that someone thinks that corruption was an acceptable form of behaviour,” stressed Bejtović.

The manager of the Information Service of the Council of Ministers of BiH, Mirjana Micevska, pointed out the need of awareness rising regarding the importance of combat against corruption.

“Equal responsibility is both on those that give and those that take a bribe”, said Micevska.

The project “Building of capacities for combat against corruption in the structures of civil service in BiH” is implemented by the Public Administration Reform Coordinator’s Office of BiH, and it was announced that upon completion of the project a handbook would be presented as a unique textbook for the topics from this field.
