Dnevni avaz: In the post-war years, 40.643 Bosnians and Herzegovinians, who live all around the world, have refused their BiH citizenship and passport, it is the latest data of the state Ministry of Civil Affairs.
More of those, who have taken foreign passports
Bosnians and Herzegovinians, who attain the citizenship of another country, do not remain without BiH citizenship, but they refuse it on their own request, mostly due to conditioning from the country in which they live. So, number of BiH citizens, who have taken another citizenship, is bigger than the number of those, who have refused our citizenship. Some countries, like the USA, do not ask the citizens to refuse their original citizenship, in order to receive their.
It is interesting that the trend of refusing of citizenship was unequal in last years. Namely, up until 2000, this trend was not that obvious. After 2000 there is an increase of refusal, which has in 2003 culminated by the record, when 9.113 citizens has refused the BiH citizenship.
In 2004, 7.021 persons have refused it, more than 5.600 persons in 2005, so the trend of reduction of number of requests has been continued in the next years as well, and the number of requests, which are being submitted per year, has not gone under the figure of 4.000.
The most Bosnians and Herzegovinians have refused the BiH citizenship in order to get the citizenships of Austria, Germany, Denmark…
Even though in the Ministry has been claimed that they do not have a data on how much there has been paid in the state counter for the requests for refusing the citizenship, in the Council of Ministers it has unofficially been confirmed to us that it is about the figure bigger than 50 million KM. Namely, today the figure of refusing is 800, or 200 KM for the persons, who receive the citizenship of countries of former Yugoslavia.
But, this price is valid only for those, who decide to submit the request for refusal of citizenship in BiH, because if they do so in some of the BiH diplomatic-consular representations, they will also pay the additional tax of 250 Euros.
That the price does not play a role and that it cannot stop thousands of those, who have decided to refuse the BiH citizenship, there is a data that since October 3rd, 2006 that the cost of this refusal has been 1.700 KM.
