Nezavisne novine: The Operation-communication center BiH 112, which will be available to citizens for notifying any kind of emergencies in case of natural or other kinds of inconveniences, has been ceremonially opened yesterday in Sarajevo.
By calling 112, citizens will be able to notify the accident or a threat for human lives, property, environment and cultural goods.
"Center 112 will be a place at which the civil authorities and institutions will be doing their function in case of the worst forms of natural or other disasters. BiH wants to become a member of the EU, and this implies a better cooperation of Member States and mutual assistance. In the center there will be a base of the Coordination authority of BiH for protection and saving, which consists of representatives of state and entity institutions and the Brčko District", has been said by Tarik Sadović, Minister of Security of BiH. Establishment of this center represents the first out of three phases of cooperation with representatives of the Danish Emergency Management Agency and UNDP, which have financed the whole project.
In next phases, it comes to connecting the center into the network with operational centers of other institutions and authorities of BiH, entities and the Brčko District, as well as the network of operational centers of neighboring countries, countries of region, operational centers of the UN and regional organizations.
Forming this center is one of the conditions set before BiH by the European Commission with the goal of strengthening the function capacities of systems for civil protection of Member States.
