On the occasion of Europe Day, the European Commission Delegation to BiH and the BiH Directorate for European Integration together with the NGO "Marathon" Sarajevo will organise a 4 km run titled "Run to Europe" in Sarajevo on Saturday, 9 May 2009.

Both the start and the finish of this sport event will be at Trg BiH 1, with the run starting at 11:00 hours and the race route passing through Vilsonovo setaliste. A relatively short race route has been designed to allow participants of all age and categories to run the race.

Winners of the first, the second and the third place in male and female competition will be awarded 300, 200 and 100 KM while all participants who finish the run will receive T-shirts specially designed for the occasion.

Europe Day has been marked in Bosnia and Herzegovina since 1997 through different sport and cultural activities throughout the country. On the 9th of May 1950, Robert Schuman, the then French Foreign Minister, presented his proposal on the creation of an organised Europe, indispensable to the maintenance of peaceful relations. This proposal, known as the "Schuman declaration", is considered to be the beginning of the creation of what is now the European Union. During the Milan Summit of EU leaders in 1985 it was decided to celebrate 9 May as "Europe Day.
