Oslobođenje: The first biometric passports to the citizens of BiH will be issued at the beginning of 2010, has been announced by Siniša Macan, director of the Agency for Identification Documents, Records and Data Exchange of BiH. According to him, during 2009 the employees of the Agency will establish the procedures for creation of travel documentation, and then it will be tested for six months, so we can enter the process of issuing the new travel documentation without additional disturbances.
While speaking on the new database of citizens, Macan has explained that it will in the first phase contain the personal data of citizens which are being entered in the passport, and later, that base will in accordance with standards of the European Union, contain the fingerprints of passport owners.
During the two-day seminar dedicated to creation of the new database of citizens and issuing the new travel documentation, attended by the representatives of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the RS, cantonal Ministries of Internal Affairs and municipal master services, experts of the OSCE and the UN International organization for civil aviation for fight against the terrorism (ICAO), they shared with the participants their experiences in the fight against the identity theft and misuse related to issuing the travel documentation.
