Dnevni avaz: If by the end of this year politicians agree to organize the population census in our country in 2011, there is a chance to do it. If the agreement is not reached on time, the chances of preparing everything on time are small. Preparations for population census take three to four years. We have been informed about all this by the Agency for Statistics in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Last year, this agency was helped by the UN Population Fund to finish the document about all activities needed for population census. The agency also asked the Council of Ministries to decide and agree on the year of census. According to the estimations of the agency, listing will cost 20 million Euros, which is not a final amount. Since there is a foregoing complex and demanding preparation, and the fact that it will involve many people, it says enough about the sum of money which will citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina have to pay for this process.
According to data of the Central Intelligence Agency – CIA, from July of this year in Bosnia and Herzegovina currently live 4.590.310 people. But even to this agency, the national structure is not known.
Last census in Bosnia and Herzegovina has been done in 1991 and it rated 4 convertible marks per citizen. There have been 4.377.033 people residing in the country. 760.522 persons declared themselves as Croats, 1.366.106 as Serbs, and 1.902.956 of people as Muslims, regarding their nationality. 347.121 citizens declared themselves as Yugoslavs, Albanians, Montenegrins, Checks, Macedonians, Hungarians, Germans, Poles, Romanians, Russians, Roma , Slovenians, Slovaks, Ukrainians, Italians, Turks and Jews.
