On the occasion of the celebration of the United Nations Public Service Day, the „UN Public Service Award" and a forum on "The Role of Public Service in achieving the Millennium Development Goals," will be held in Barcelona from June 21 to 23.
The General Assembly, by its resolution A/RES/57/277, designated 23 June as the United Nations Public Service Day to "celebrate the value and virtue of service to the community".
Announcement of the winners, "United Nations Public Service Award" is organized by the UN Department for Economic and Social Affairs (UNDESA), Division for Public Administration and management of development in cooperation with the Government of Catalonia, which will also host this event.
The event will be articulated in plenary sessions, as well as parallel capacity development workshops and an expert group meeting. Discussion in the workshops and expert meeting will lead to a concrete set of recommendations on how to improve public administration institutions, processes and practices in the following inter-related areas:
- Promoting Innovation in Transparency, Accountability and Public Service Delivery for Achieving the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs)
- Engaging Citizens in Development Management and Public Governance for the Achievement of the MDGs
- Advancing e-Government Development and Knowledge Management
- Developing Institutional Capacities for the Achievement of MDGs in Post Conflict and Crisis Situations: Challenges, Best Practices, and Lessons Learned in Preparedness, Prevention, and Reconstruction
- Sharing Knowledge among Awards Programmes
