Dnevni avaz: Number of buyers of used vehicles in Bosnia and Herzegovina is struggling while trying to check if the car they plan to buy is on the Interpol, or BiH list of stolen cars. To avoid this problem, the CIPS sector, or the Agency for identification documents, evidence and data exchange in BiH planned to enable the citizens to check this over the internet. In order to check this, citizens need to type in a number of the car’s chassis, and this way they can see if the car is “clean”.

According to the agency director, Siniša Macan, this is only one of the projects they applied for money from the pre accession funds of IPA 2008. Would this project be approved, it depends on the European Commission.

Thanks to the register of vehicles in BiH, special register of stolen cars, and direct data exchange with the Interpol, from February 2007 it is almost impossible to register a stolen car in our country.

By typing in the number of car’s chassis, data automatically transfers to the Interpol in Lion. After this has been done, Ministries of Internal Affairs in BiH are being informed to check if the car has been stolen, or not. Since this system began, 3.000 tryouts to register a stolen car have been signaled. With Interpol’s help, more than 1.100 cars have been found this way.

Mr. Macan mentioned his plan to initiate the possibility of car registering, checking the status of residential documents, ID and passport through the internet.

Fist registration, then payment

It is recommended not to complete the payment before the registration is done. This is the only way citizens are not going to stay without both money and a car, in case they bought a stolen one.
